Welsh Slate & Silver Earrings

by Rhi Frankton Jewellery

Unique handmade sterling silver bezel Welsh slate stud earrings.

The Welsh slate is hand cut, filed, then the bezel set in silver. Various length chains are added, along with a post and butterfly back. Delivered to your door in a beautiful black & silver presentation box. The perfect gift for someone who likes something a bit different!

My new collection ‘Off The Rails’ came after a trip to Budapest, Hungary – The jewel of Eastern Europe. Inspired by curved metal railings held together with large chunky rivets, I designed my collection around that concept. I explored curved textured forms, using cold connections, rather than the traditional soldering process. I design and handcraft each piece in my small workshop in the seaside town of Porthcawl, South Wales.

Rhi graduated with a BA (hons) in Jewellery Design from Hereford College of Arts in 2014. Taking inspiration from urban scenes Rhi designs and handcrafts each piece in her small workshop near the seaside town of Porthcawl, South Wales. Working mainly in silver and various stone setting techniques; creating statement pieces with an industrial influence.

As featured in July’s issue of Tatler 2016 - 'Rhi Frankton's current collection 'Off The Rails' is inspired by urban scenes, resulting in a range of unique handmade pieces with a contemporary edge. Rough stones are set on chunky rings held together by rivets; these are certainly statement items with an industrial influence.'

I have always had a love of jewellery, adorning the body with sparkly beautiful things!

I love to collect inspiration, always at the ready with a camera and sketchbook! The whole process from inspiration to the finished collection; letting my designs develop accidentally.

My collection has now developed further focusing more on stone set pieces (soldering is needed!) combining Welsh slate and a range of rough gem stones.

I love my job!
