Description

This sculpture of a young Hippogriff recalls classical beasts from medieval bestiaries. The beautiful and intricate texture of cracks and fine lines looks and feels ancient and the sleeping pose compels children and adults to stroke the sleeping creature. Just be careful not to wake her!

Cliff Wright is well know for his illustrations to the original Harry Potter books, wherein Hippogriffs roam freely. It is not widely known though that Hippogriffs have a much older history than the tales of the boy wizard. Their origin is in the murky and mysterious world of medieval bestiaries, where strange mixtures of familiar and unfamiliar creatures were imagined, drawn and perhaps glimpsed on a dark night…
